2011 SEA Games squad embrace SAM Award "Out-do Yourself"



Harimau Muda squad, football champions of SEA Games in Jakarta last November, was selected by the Sports Writers Association of Malaysia (SAM) as the winner of the "Out-Do Yourself" 2011 SAM-100Plus-KBS.

Under-23 national team under the guidance of Ong Kim Swee managed to retain the SEA Games gold medal after beating Indonesia 4-3 on penalties after both teams tied 1-1 until the end of extra time.

With the award, he hopes to improve team performance and narrow the gap with giant teams in Asia, he said, will receive the award for the team at the award ceremony at the Hilton Hotel, Petaling Jaya, this Sunday.

The highlight event was the presentation awards of "Best Athlete 2011" in which a total of 11 candidates selected by five shortlisted in each category by members of the SAM.

Five short listed candidates will receive RM1, 000 each, while the winner will take home RM10, 000 and a trophy crystal.

Eleven candidates were Lee Chong Wei (badminton), Datuk Nicol David (squash), Pandelela Rinong (diving), Fatehah Mustapha and Ju Pha Som Net (cycling), Nur Suryani Mohamed Taibi (shooting), Jacqueline Jenelee and Adrian Ang (bowling ), Aaliyah Yoong (water-ski), Kevan Cheah (wushu) and  recurve team (archery).
