International Friendly 1

Arjen Robben scored a brilliant double, including a late winner, to resist England's late comeback in the Netherland's 3-2 win on Wednesday.

Trailing 2-0 after goals from Robben and Klaas-Jan Huntelaar, England pulled a goal back in the 85th minute when Gary Cahill appeared from nowhere in the centre-forward’s position to guide the ball calmly through the legs of the Dutch goalkeeper Maarten Stekelenburg.

A minute into added time, Ashley Young appeared to have snatched a draw for the home side when he scored with a clever dink.

But the magnificent Robben had other ideas, taking a ball on the right side of the box a minute later and shaping a curling shot into the top corner to claim the win.

Spain ran out comprehensive 5-0 winners over Venezuela in their international friendly in Malaga on Wednesday.

Roberto Soldado marked his first appearance for Spain since 2007 with a clinical hat-trick, while David Silva and Andres Iniesta were also on the scoresheet as the home side dominated their less illustrious opponents.

Mano Menezes' Brazil were 2-1 winners over Bosnia-Herzegovina at AFG Arena in St. Gallen, although the South Americans left it late to secure victory.

Brazil started strongly and took the lead after just four minutes when a neat attacking move saw Dani Alves pick out fellow full-back Marcelo.

And the Real Madrid defender made no mistake with the finish to give Brazil the early advantage.

But Bosnia responded quickly, with Vedad Ibsevic equalising on 13 minutes after Brazil goalkeeper Julio Cesar spilled his tame effort.

That looked like being enough to give Bosnia a draw until stoppage time in the second half started as Rangers defender Sasa Papac scored an own-goal.

The other friendly saw Serbia defeat Armenia 2-0 at Tsirion Stadium in Limassol, Cyprus.

First-half goals from Zdravko Kuzmanovic and Branislav Ivanovic led the Serbs to victory, as Armenia failed to find a breakthrough despite taking the upper hand in the second half.

France's revival under Laurent Blanc continued as they inflicted a 2-1 defeat upon Germany in their international friendly in Bremen.

Olivier Giroud scored just 21 minutes into his international debut, before Chelsea's Florent Malouda gave France a deserved second on 69 minutes.

Cacau did manage to pull one back for the hosts in the dying minutes, but it was more than Germany deserved after a disappointing performance against the revitalised French.

The United States picked up their first ever victory over Italy on Wednesday, winning their international friendly 1-0 in Genoa.

Fulham's Clint Dempsey scored the lone goal of the game early in the second half, and despite a flurry of activity from the home side, the Americans held out for the win at the Stadio Luigi Ferraris.

Lionel Messi led Argentina to a 3-1 win over Switzerland.

Messi scored his first international hat-trick, while Swiss young gun Xherdan Shaqiri grabbed the home side's goal, in the match in Bern on Wednesday.

The FIFA World Player of the Year got his first in the 20th minute when he linked with Sergio Aguero who returned the ball to his captain with a neat backheel and Messi scored.

Shaqiri tied the game four minutes into the second half but Messi claimed victory when he dribbled through the Swiss defence and chipped the ball over goalkeeper Marco Wolfli in the 88th minute.

The Barcelona star then completed his hat-trick with a penalty in injury time.

Sweden thumped Croatia in Zagreb in a busy day of international football.

In Croatia, the match was tied at half-time after Jonas Olsson's own goal had cancelled out Zlatan Ibrahimovic's early penalty, before a second-half double from Sunderland's Sebastian Larsson wrapped up the win for Sweden against their fellow Euro 2012 qualifiers.

In another clash involving two teams that will be at the continental championships in June, Russia stunned Denmark 2-0 in Copenhagen thanks to a goal and an assist from Andrei Arshavin.

The visitors hit the front in just the fourth minute when Arshavin set up Roman Shirokov and then doubled their lead just before half-time thanks to a powerful shot from Arshavin.

The two hosts of this year's European Championships had promising results, with Ukraine winning 3-2 away from home against Israel and Poland earning a 0-0 draw against Portugal.

Of the other Euro 2012 qualifiers in action, Greece were held 1-1 at home by Belgium, while Republic of Ireland and Czech Republic also drew 1-1 in Dublin.

It was a full day of international action around the world, with Austria defeating Finland 3-1, Slovakia overcoming Turkey 2-1, Uruguay drawing 1-1 in Romania, Cyprus holding Serbia to a 0-0 draw, Norway thumping Northern Ireland 3-0, Slovenia tying Scotland 1-1 and Costa Rica beating Wales 1-0.

In other results on Wednesday, Luxembourg beat Macedonia 2-1, Malta won 2-1 over Liechtenstein, Montenegro defeated Iceland 2-1, Peru drew 1-1 in Tunisia and South Africa was held 0-0 at home by Senegal.

In the Americas, Paraguay, Ecuador and Bolivia all had wins at home, while Guatemala beat Guyana 2-0 on the road.

Ghana was held to a 1-1 draw away to 10-man Chile, while Radamel Falcao was on target as Colombia defeated Mexico 2-0 in Miami.
